Visual Update
It’s time to get back.
TLDR; new visuals, new levels!
I have been thinking about the ways to further expand the game mechanically and to improve it visually for a long time since the very first updates. Well, finally, I am making adjustments to the game’s visuals!
UI Redesign
First of all, Close to Light now uses a CRT shader to polish the overall look and style of the game. However, this effect can be turned off if you wish.

The menu has been redesigned again to be simpler and easier to understand. In addition, it displays your progress across levels, so you know which levels you haven’t completed yet!

The new post-game score card shows a more detailed breakdown of your performance, displaying your rhythm and precision visually, as well as assigning a grade to the score.
Special VFX
Even right after the initial jam release of the game, effects like palette swap have been discussed but never implemented.. until now! Featuring screen shake, palette swap, and chromatic aberration as the first VFX to be implemented into the game.
These visual effects are used in both old and new levels to give them a little extra spice.
New content!
- New level “Gonna Terraform It!” with music by @typeyourtexthereblog and 3 difficulties as usual!
- In addition, old levels have been revamped slightly with the new visual effects, but also some timings and patterns have been tweaked to improve the gameplay flow without changing the original mapping too much.
